Balancing Chi (ch*ee) Energy

Energy Work - a brief explanation

Chi (pronounced, “ch*ee”), is the body’s vital force. Chi is very different from physical energy. It is not the energy we use to run or walk. All things on earth have their own vital force. Let’s take flowers, for instance, when first blooming, they are fresh and vibrant, full of life. And as time goes on they lose their luster, wither, and then die; it’s the same for us—we grow older with each passing day. Chinese Traditional Medicine, for example, focuses on these energy flows (chi) over the body to promote healing and health.

Working with a body’s chi or etheric energy coaxes the body to ‘reroute’ its chi more appropriately, gaining a better balance. This helps the body assist in its own healing.

The next question may be—how is chi ‘rerouted’?

You could say a client’s chi is persuaded by way of the practitioner.

The most known form of energy work is Reiki, with Polarity less common. Reiki does take a different approach, however, both have the same goal—to balance.

Polarity Therapy has three different types of holds or principal kinds of touch used.

  • Satvic (“sa-TA-vic”) is light and still

  • Tamasic (“ta-MA-sic”) is the deepest & roughest

  • Rajasic (“ra-JA-sic”) is gentle with either up & down or back & forth movements

The type of touch used depends on what’s needed, with a unique combination of each tailored to the client’s current needs.

Energy bundles are at all sorts of spots on the body. The main hubs are the seven chakras (this is for another article!). For example, smaller energy bundles can be found where ligaments and tendons attach muscle to bone. A release in these areas can ease some physical discomforts as excess/deficient chi is addressed.

Reiki, you could say, veers towards the more spiritual side; mind-and-spirit style of work. Whereas Polarity is more of a mind-body style. While the theories behind Reiki and Polarity differ, both can achieve a positive result. And there are no side effects to hinder well-being or health. What a plus!

In short, the energy work practitioner enhances a client’s internal energy.
